When the NSWF had no funds to make costly repairs to the buildings or docks, we hit on the idea of creating a lush garden to make things look nicer! We decided to open garden rows for the community to use, since we are lucky enough to have a really sunny location and amended soil provided by the Town. We added irrigation. Two rows are shared by all the gardeners – one for flowers and one for vines. Last year a half row for herbs was added.
We presently have 20 gardeners working the area, and several children have been part of a mentoring project led by our two garden organizers, Shannon and Muffie. It has been a fun learning experience for everyone involved.
