NSWF seeks operator for Galley Ho

The New Suffolk Waterfront Fund, Inc. is releasing a Request for Proposal for the newly renovated Galley Ho Café. The Waterfront Fund is seeking a qualified and experienced applicant to operate their 66 seat waterfront café, situated on 2.4 scenic acres in New Suffolk.

The Waterfront Fund envisions the café as a casual dining spot and comfortable local gathering place. In addition to two dining areas, one with a fireplace, and one with the original Galley Ho bar, the cafe has an expansive deck with spectacular views of Peconic Bay. It is also an integral part of their mission - to preserve and protect the waterfront, to support recreational, educational and commercial activities on the site, and to provide public access to the property. The NSWF anticipates that the café will open in the Spring of 2016.

Releasing the RFP represents a milestone for the Waterfront Fund. “We are now ready to find the right person to run the café in the newly renovated Galley Ho. We thank our past and present board members, our volunteers, our donors, and our supporters for contributing to this project’s success,” said Patricia McIntyre, Chair of the New Suffolk Waterfront Fund.

The Galley Ho was successfully operated as a 99 seat restaurant and bar before the property was bought by the non-profit New Suffolk Waterfront Fund in 2007. It was purchased to prevent a large scale proposed development in the tiny hamlet. The property, which includes a small marina, had become derelict over the years and plans were initially made for a modest renovation. However, after sustaining significant damage from Hurricane Sandy, the Waterfront Fund embarked on a substantial renovation, paid for with donations and a disaster relief loan from the Small Business Administration.

“The RFP will be our guide as we seek the café operator who is the best fit for our mission, our community, and our property. We are excited to meet with interested parties and look forward to a great working relationship,” said Patricia Lowry, Board Member and Chair of the RFP Committee.

The New Suffolk Waterfront Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, established in 2006 to purchase and manage the waterfront property. For further information about the NSWF and their RFP, visit newsuffolkwaterfront.org or email them at newsuffolkfund@gmail.com.
